An Apprentice Carpenter must have the skills and knowledge to operate all hand tools, power tools and construction equipment. They must understand the materials and procedures for general building techniques and perform work necessary for framing, siding, concrete, door and window installation, etc. with limited to no supervision. In addition, the Apprentice Carpenter will be required to assist Journeyman Carpenters in advanced building techniques.

Lead Carpenters/Foremen are responsible for assisting the superintendent as needed. In the superintendent’s absence, they will be responsible for conducting regular safety meetings and carrying out company safety policies.

Superintendents must have the ability to run jobs, small and large, read blueprints, order materials, motivate crews, conduct general meetings and safety meetings, train new employees, and follow/uphold company safety rules. Duties include consulting with PM and subcontractors on design issues and/or change directives. Superintendents are responsible for conducting weekly safety meetings and the implementation of company safety policies.
Superintendents are responsible for management of the job site. Management responsibilities include keeping abreast of crew and employee challenges and successes, ensuring job site efficiency while mandating safety, and upholding employee morale. Superintendents are also responsible for enforcing scheduled hours of work for their crew.
The Superintendent position is a blended role. This position is a “bags on” field leadership position. The Superintendent must be a Journeyman Carpenter; therefore, following the required skills and abilities of a Journeyman Carpenter and the below requirements of the leadership role. Please refer to the attached Journeyman Carpenter Job Description for detailed expectations of that role which are also expectations of this role.

Trade Expertise Development:
In the Trade Expertise Development portion of the Internship, you are assigned to a project in the field. The goal is to experience the construction process while beginning to learn the Journeyman carpentry skills and developing an understanding of the other trades. This rotation will run the duration of the summer with continued part-time work available throughout the school year.
