Cowboys & Indians Dec. 2012

“The creativity is evident in every aspect of the home, inside and out, including the unique structural design. Build on a gently sloping hillside, the residence appears to rise organically from the earth. The exterior’s massive logs and locally quarried rock provide a stunning contrast to the huge walls of windows. ‘The views are staggering,’ Barry notes. ‘In the front we have perfectly framed view of Lone Peak, and along the back, a full panorama of the Spanish Peaks.'”

“”But why Big Sky?” some might ask. With so many other resort areas to choose from, why pick Montana? Collie said that with three of their four children now graduated from college and starting their professional careers, she knew she needed to own a place that would bring the kids home for a visit.

“The draw was the Yellowstone Club, where there are no lift tickets,” she said. “We like that we can use the house for skiing in the winter and golf in the summer when it’s miserably hot in Nashville.””

Log Home Living – 2010

“They fell in love with Big Sky’soaring Gallatin and Madison mountain ranges. As they explored the area further, a log home being built by Blue Ribbon Builders caught their eye. They contracted Blue Ribbon’s owners, Doug and JoDean Bing, toured several of the company’s custom homes and like what they saw. The Bings happened to have a 20-acre parcel of land that they were willing to sell. They’d intended building there themselves but decided it wasn’t suitable for a year-round residence as it had limited inaccessibility in the winter. All of the geological surveys had been completed, and Doug had identified two ideal spots for construction.”

“We had a very clear vision for our home, the owner says. Inside the couple wanted large spaces for entertaining, but also private quarters where their children and guests could retreat and unwind. From the outside, the structure needed to blend into the mountain backdrop. The owners selected a team of local professionals for the project. Architects Jerry Locati and Brian Tolstedt worked with the couple to create the blueprint. Lynette Zambon of Design Associates led the interior design and Doug and JoDean Bing, owners of Blue Ribbon Builders were the contractors.”

Timber Homes Illustrated – Feb. 2007

“Jon and Colleen began the construction of their getaway home in 2004, after their real estate agent introduced them to Doug and JoDean Bing, owners of Blue Ribbon Builders. The four hit it off immediately, and the Dudleys contracted with Blue Ribbon Builders without even considering other builders.

“Colleen was very decisive. She knew what she wanted,” JoDean says. And what Colleen wanted was a home with a western flair that would fit into the surroundings without duplicating her neighbor’s log home or “looking like a fad” in 20 years.”

Timber Homes Illustrated 2007

“We began to interview builders in the Big Sky area and eventually met with Doug and JoDean Bing, co-owners of Blue Ribbon Builders, Jane remembers. We just clicked; we developed a good rapport with them and felt we could trust them to take care of the details based on their reputation for quality workmanship. Being able to trust their builders was a critical point for the Suttons, because, with their full-time residence in Massachusetts, they wouldn’t be on the construction site frequently.”
